Diana

The Maid of Cynthus

Tale

Diana was worshiped long before the Roman pantheon came to be. As a form of Mother Nature, she is. the ultimate huntress who can bring about life or death. She is the chaste goddess of the moon who fiercely protects nature, mothers, childbirth and true love in all its forms.

One day, Diana came upon the famous mortal hunter Orion in the forest. Orion was beloved by all and bested by none. They became the best of friends. They hunted and competed in the forest by day, and shared stories by campfire at night. That was, until Diana’s twin brother Apollo came upon Diana and Orion together. Apollo became wildly jealous of his twin’s new bff and sent a monstrous scorpion to kill Orion while Diana was away. Orion dove into the nearby lake to evade the scorpion.

When Diana returned, Apollo falsely told her a villain had taken one of her temple maidens by force and was escaping through the waters. Diana immediately drew her bow and aimed true, slaying Orion. Upon discovering the truth, she was heartbroken. To honor her great friend forevermore, she set him among the stars as the constellation Orion, the hunter.

Kyrie

Tale

Kiri’s Kyrie is a Norse Valkyrie. Valkyries ride across the sky reporting on battles to Odin, the Allfather. Norse say the Aurora Borealis is heavenly light glinting off their armor. In Norse, Kyrie means chooser and Valkyrie means chooser of the slain. Valkyries are powerful judges who choose which fallen warriors are worthy of going to the heaven of Valhalla. Not even Odin can nay-say a Valkyrie’s decision.

Kyrie’s headdress has Odin’s ravens Huginn, or thought, on the front and Muninn, or memory, on the back. Her shield bears the runes of Vegvisir, or way finder, often referred to as the Norse compass. Although originally navigational, in modern day, it also has meaning as a moral compass guiding the way to earn a place in Valhalla.

The brooch at her waist that looks like a snowflake is a variation of the Helm of Awe protective rune. Although it looks like a flower, the brooch at her neck is a variation of the traditional Norse serpent brooch that represents the Midgard World Serpent or ouroboros dragon who wraps around the world holding it together with its tail in its mouth.
